Golden Crown

An emerald belt ’round gold castle
Towers for the money
we don’t have
Castles, or crowns for the King.

Girdled by fat ivory fingers
Laced with hissing ruby tongues
Can any of us breathe?

I’ll scale your diamond sky
and earn my golden crown!
Melt it over a pearly road –
Oh God.
I’d give you the glory if I could
(give up my golden crown.)
